TAQU Manga Translator ("TAQU") translates the text in manga, manhwa and comic pages you choose, through our Chrome extension and this website. This page says what we process, why, and for how long.
Your account
- You sign in with Google or with your email and a password. With Google we receive your email address and Google's confirmation that it is verified, never your Google password. A TAQU password is stored only as a secure hash.
- We keep your email, your plan and the settings you choose (such as translating text outside balloons).
Pages you translate
- When you press Translate, the extension sends the page image to our servers. We read the text in it, translate it and send the translated picture back.
- The original image and the translated picture are deleted within 24 hours. We do not use your pages to train AI models.
- The text read from a page (not the image) is sent to our AI translation provider, OpenAI, only to translate it.
- If you press Report, the page you report is kept so we can fix the translation. Only use Report on pages you are happy to share with us.
Free pages and fair use
Free pages are given once per device. To make that work, the extension sends two signals with each page: a one-way hash of your computer's characteristics as the browser sees them (graphics card, number of processor cores, memory, platform, time zone and how it draws a test image) and a random id created when the extension was installed. We store only hashes of these, linked to the first account that used free pages on that device. We use them only to prevent misuse of free pages and fair-use limits, never for advertising or to follow you across websites.
Payments
Payments are handled by Stripe. We keep your plan, its status and Stripe's customer and subscription ids. We never see your card number.
Cookies
We use one sign-in cookie (secure, not readable by scripts) and short-lived cookies during Google sign-in. No advertising or tracking cookies.
Who processes data for us
- Contabo (servers in the EU) hosts the service.
- Google, for sign-in.
- OpenAI, for translating text.
- Stripe, for payments.
- Cloudflare, for our domain name.
How long we keep things
- Page images and translated pictures: up to 24 hours.
- Account, settings and device hashes: while your account exists. Deleting your account removes them.
- Billing records: as long as tax law requires.
Your rights
You can see and change your settings, disconnect browsers and delete your account on your account page. For a copy of your data or any privacy question, email privacy@taqumanga.com. If you are in the EU or UK you may also complain to your data protection authority.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so on this page and, where required, by email.
